Job 14:10–12 — The New International Version (NIV)

10 But a man dies and is laid low;

he breathes his last and is no more.

11 As the water of a lake dries up

or a riverbed becomes parched and dry,

12 so he lies down and does not rise;

till the heavens are no more, people will not awake

or be roused from their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

10 But man dieth, and wasteth away:

Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

11 As the waters fail from the sea,

And the flood decayeth and drieth up:

12 So man lieth down, and riseth not:

Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake,

Nor be raised out of their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — New Living Translation (NLT)

10 “But when people die, their strength is gone.

They breathe their last, and then where are they?

11 As water evaporates from a lake

and a river disappears in drought,

12 people are laid to rest and do not rise again.

Until the heavens are no more, they will not wake up

nor be roused from their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

10 But man dies and is laid away;

Indeed he breathes his last

And where is he?

11 As water disappears from the sea,

And a river becomes parched and dries up,

12 So man lies down and does not rise.

Till the heavens are no more,

They will not awake

Nor be roused from their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — New Century Version (NCV)

10 But we die, and our bodies are laid in the ground;

we take our last breath and are gone.

11 Water disappears from a lake,

and a river loses its water and dries up.

12 In the same way, we lie down and do not rise again;

we will not get up or be awakened

until the heavens disappear.

Job 14:10–12 — American Standard Version (ASV)

10 But man dieth, and is laid low:

Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

11 As the waters fail from the sea,

And the river wasteth and drieth up;

12 So man lieth down and riseth not:

Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake,

Nor be roused out of their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

10 But a man dieth, and is prostrate; yea, man expireth, and where is he? 11 The waters recede from the lake, and the river wasteth and drieth up: 12 So man lieth down, and riseth not again; till the heavens be no more, they do not awake, nor are raised out of their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

10 But a human dies and is powerless.

A person breathes his last breath, and where is he?

11 ⸤As⸥ water drains out of a lake,

or ⸤as⸥ a river dries up completely,

12 so each person lies down

and does not rise until the heavens cease to exist.

He does not wake up.

He is not awakened from his sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

10 But a man dies and fades away;

he breathes his last—where is he?

11 As water disappears from the sea

and a river becomes parched and dry,

12 so man lies down never to rise again.

They will not wake up until the heavens are no more;

they will not stir from their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

10 But mortals die, and are laid low;

humans expire, and where are they?

11 As waters fail from a lake,

and a river wastes away and dries up,

12 so mortals lie down and do not rise again;

until the heavens are no more, they will not awake

or be roused out of their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

10 “But a man dies, and he dwindles away;

thus a human being passes away, and where is he?

11 As water disappears from a lake,

and a river withers away and dries up,

12 so a man lies down, and he does not arise.

Until the heavens are no more, they will not awaken,

and they will not be roused out of their sleep.

Job 14:10–12 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

10 No man is like that. When he dies, he is buried in a grave.

He takes his last breath. Then he is gone.

11 Water disappears from lakes.

Riverbeds become empty and dry.

12 In the same way, a man lies down and never gets up.

He won’t wake up or rise from his sleep

until the heavens are gone.

Job 14:10–12 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

10 “But man dies and lies prostrate.

Man expires, and where is he?

11 As water evaporates from the sea,

And a river becomes parched and dried up,

12 So man lies down and does not rise.

Until the heavens are no longer,

He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.
