6 You have rejected me,” declares the Lord.

“You keep on backsliding.

So I will reach out and destroy you;

I am tired of holding back.

7 I will winnow them with a winnowing fork

at the city gates of the land.

I will bring bereavement and destruction on my people,

for they have not changed their ways.

8 I will make their widows more numerous

than the sand of the sea.

At midday I will bring a destroyer

against the mothers of their young men;

suddenly I will bring down on them

anguish and terror.

9 The mother of seven will grow faint

and breathe her last.

Her sun will set while it is still day;

she will be disgraced and humiliated.

I will put the survivors to the sword

before their enemies,”

declares the Lord.

6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting. 7 And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways. 8 Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city. 9 She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the Lord.

6 You have abandoned me

and turned your back on me,”

says the Lord.

“Therefore, I will raise my fist to destroy you.

I am tired of always giving you another chance.

7 I will winnow you like grain at the gates of your cities

and take away the children you hold dear.

I will destroy my own people,

because they refuse to change their evil ways.

8 There will be more widows

than the grains of sand on the seashore.

At noontime I will bring a destroyer

against the mothers of young men.

I will cause anguish and terror

to come upon them suddenly.

9 The mother of seven grows faint and gasps for breath;

her sun has gone down while it is still day.

She sits childless now,

disgraced and humiliated.

And I will hand over those who are left

to be killed by the enemy.

I, the Lord, have spoken!”

I will destroy My people,

Since they do not return from their ways.

8 Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas;

I will bring against them,

Against the mother of the young men,

A plunderer at noonday;

I will cause anguish and terror to fall on them suddenly.

9 “She languishes who has borne seven;

She has breathed her last;

Her sun has gone down

While it was yet day;

She has been ashamed and confounded.

And the remnant of them I will deliver to the sword

Before their enemies,” says the Lord.

6 Jerusalem, you have left me,” says the Lord.

“You keep going farther and farther away,

so I have taken hold of you and destroyed you.

I was tired of holding back my anger.

7 I have separated the people of Judah with my pitchfork

and scattered them at the city gates of the land.

My people haven’t changed their ways.

So I have destroyed them

and taken away their children.

8 There are more widows than grains of sand in the sea.

I brought a destroyer at noontime

against the mothers of the young men of Judah.

I suddenly brought pain and fear

on the people of Judah.

9 When the enemy attacked, a woman with seven sons felt faint because they would all die.

She became weak and unable to breathe.

Her bright day became dark from sadness.

She felt shame and disgrace.

And everyone else left alive in Judah

I will hand over to the enemies, too!” says the Lord.

I suddenly released on her

agitation and terrors.

9 The mother of seven grew faint;

she breathed her last breath.

Her sun set while it was still day;

she was ashamed and humiliated.

The rest of them I will give over to the sword

in the presence of their enemies.”

This is the Lord’s declaration.

I am bereaved.

I have destroyed my people.

They did not turn back from their ways.

8 Their widows will be more numerous before me than the sand of the seas.

I have brought to them, against the mothers of young men,

a destroyer at noon.

I will suddenly drop on her anguish and horror.

9 She who gave birth to seven has withered away.

She gasps her breath.

Her sun set while still day.

She has been put to shame and disgraced.

And the remainder of them I will give to the sword

before their enemies,” declares Yahweh.

6 You have said no to me,” announces the Lord.

“You keep on turning away from me.

So I will destroy you with my own hands.

I can’t show you my tender love anymore.

7 I will stand at the city gates of the land.

I will separate the straw from the grain.

I will destroy my people. I will bring great sorrow on them.

They have not changed their ways.

8 I will increase the number of their widows.

They will be more than the grains of sand on the seashore.

At noon I will bring a destroyer

against the mothers of the young men among my people.

All at once I will bring down on them

great suffering and terror.

9 Mothers who have many children will grow weak.

They will take their last breath.

The sun will set on them while it is still day.

They will be dishonored and put to shame.

All those who are left alive I will kill with swords.

I will have their enemies do it,”

announces the Lord.
