4 For before the boy knows how to say ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”

5 The Lord spoke to me again:

6 “Because this people has rejected

the gently flowing waters of Shiloah

and rejoices over Rezin

and the son of Remaliah,

7 therefore the Lord is about to bring against them

the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates—

the king of Assyria with all his pomp.

It will overflow all its channels,

run over all its banks

8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it,

passing through it and reaching up to the neck.

Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land,

Immanuel!”

4 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

5 The Lord spake also unto me again, saying,

6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly,

And rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them

The waters of the river, strong and many,

Even the king of Assyria, and all his glory:

And he shall come up over all his channels,

And go over all his banks:

8 And he shall pass through Judah;

He shall overflow and go over,

He shall reach even to the neck;

And the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

4 For before this child is old enough to say ‘Papa’ or ‘Mama,’ the king of Assyria will carry away both the abundance of Damascus and the riches of Samaria.”

5 Then the Lord spoke to me again and said, 6 “My care for the people of Judah is like the gently flowing waters of Shiloah, but they have rejected it. They are rejoicing over what will happen to King Rezin and King Pekah. 7 Therefore, the Lord will overwhelm them with a mighty flood from the Euphrates River—the king of Assyria and all his glory. This flood will overflow all its channels 8 and sweep into Judah until it is chin deep. It will spread its wings, submerging your land from one end to the other, O Immanuel.

4 for before the child shall have knowledge to cry ‘My father’ and ‘My mother,’ the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be taken away before the king of Assyria.”

5 The Lord also spoke to me again, saying:

6 “Inasmuch as these people refused

The waters of Shiloah that flow softly,

And rejoice in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son;

7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them

The waters of the River, strong and mighty—

The king of Assyria and all his glory;

He will go up over all his channels

And go over all his banks.

8 He will pass through Judah,

He will overflow and pass over,

He will reach up to the neck;

And the stretching out of his wings

Will fill the breadth of Your land, O Immanuel.

4 because the king of Assyria will take away all the wealth and possessions of Damascus and Samaria before the boy learns to say ‘my father’ or ‘my mother.’ ”

5 Again the Lord spoke to me, saying,

6 “These people refuse to accept

the slow-moving waters of the pool of Shiloah

and are terrified of Rezin

and Pekah son of Remaliah.

7 So I, the Lord, will bring

the king of Assyria and all his power against them,

like a powerful flood of water from the Euphrates River.

The Assyrians will be like water rising over the banks of the river,

flowing over the land.

8 That water will flow into Judah and pass through it,

rising to Judah’s throat.

Immanuel, this army will spread its wings like a bird

until it covers your whole country.”

5 And Jehovah spake unto me yet again, saying, 6 Forasmuch as this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son; 7 now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory: and it shall come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks; 8 and it shall sweep onward into Judah; it shall overflow and pass through; it shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

4 For before the lad knoweth to cry, My father! and, My mother! the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria. 5 And Jehovah spoke again to me, saying, 6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah which flow softly, and rejoiceth in Rezin and in the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore behold, the Lord will bring up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall mount up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: 8 and he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow it and go further, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!

4 Before the boy knows how to say ‘Daddy’ or ‘Mommy,’ the wealth of Damascus and the loot from Samaria will be carried away to the king of Assyria.” 

5 The Lord spoke to me again. He said, 

6 “These people have rejected the gently flowing water of Shiloah 

and find joy in Rezin and Remaliah’s son.” 

7 That is why the Lord is going to bring against them 

the raging and powerful floodwaters of the Euphrates River— 

the king of Assyria with all his power. 

It will overflow all its channels and go over all its banks. 

8 It will sweep through Judah. 

It will overflow and pass through; it will be neck-high. 

Its outspread wings will extend over your whole country, O Immanuel. 

4 for before the boy knows how to call out father or mother, the wealth of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria will be carried off to the king of Assyria.”

5 The Lord spoke to me again:

6 Because these people rejected

the slowly flowing waters of Shiloah

and rejoiced with Rezin

and the son of Remaliah,

7 the Lord will certainly bring against them

the mighty rushing waters of the Euphrates River—

the king of Assyria and all his glory.

It will overflow its channels

and spill over all its banks.

8 It will pour into Judah,

flood over it, and sweep through,

reaching up to the neck;

and its spreading streams

will fill your entire land, Immanuel!

4 for before the child knows how to call “My father” or “My mother,” the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away by the king of Assyria.

5 The Lord spoke to me again: 6 Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and melt in fear before Rezin and the son of Remaliah; 7 therefore, the Lord is bringing up against it the mighty flood waters of the River, the king of Assyria and all his glory; it will rise above all its channels and overflow all its banks; 8 it will sweep on into Judah as a flood, and, pouring over, it will reach up to the neck; and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

4 For before the boy knows to call ‘my father’ and ‘my mother,’ one will carry away the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria in the presence of the king of Assyria.”

5 And Yahweh continued to speak to me again, saying,

6 “Because this people has refused the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore look! The Lord is bringing up the waters of the great and mighty river against them, the king of Assyria and all his glory.

And he will rise above all his channels,

and he will flow over all his banks.

8 And he will sweep into Judah;

he will overflow and he will flood up to the neck.

He will reach, and he will spread his wings out over your entire land, God with us.”

4 “The king of Assyria will carry off the wealth of Damascus. He will also carry away the goods that were taken from Samaria. That will happen before the boy knows how to say ‘My father’ or ‘My mother.’ ”

5 The Lord continued,

6 “I am like the gently flowing stream of Siloam.

But the people of Judah have turned their backs on me.

They are filled with joy because of the fall of Rezin

and the son of Remaliah.

7 So I am about to bring against these people

the king of Assyria and his whole army.

The Assyrians will be like the mighty Euphrates River

when it is flooding.

They will run over everything in their path.

8 They will sweep on into Judah like a flood.

They will pass through Judah and reach all the way to Jerusalem.

Immanuel, they will attack your land like an eagle.

Their wings will spread out and cover it.”

5 Again the Lord spoke to me further, saying,

6 “Inasmuch as these people have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah

And rejoice in Rezin and the son of Remaliah;

7 “Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates,

Even the king of Assyria and all his glory;

And it will rise up over all its channels and go over all its banks.

8 “Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through,

It will reach even to the neck;

And the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.
