Isaiah 31:5–6

5 Like birds hovering overhead,

the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem;

he will shield it and deliver it,

he will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.”

6 Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.

5 As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem;

Defending also he will deliver it;

And passing over he will preserve it.

6 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

5 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will hover over Jerusalem

and protect it like a bird protecting its nest.

He will defend and save the city;

he will pass over it and rescue it.”

6 Though you are such wicked rebels, my people, come and return to the Lord.

5 Like birds flying about,

So will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem.

Defending, He will also deliver it;

Passing over, He will preserve it.”

6 Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

5 The Lord All-Powerful will defend Jerusalem

like birds flying over their nests.

He will defend and save it;

he will ‘pass over’ and save Jerusalem.”

6 You children of Israel, come back to the God you fought against.

5 As birds hovering, so will Jehovah of hosts protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it, he will pass over and preserve it. 6 Turn ye unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, O children of Israel.

5 As birds with outstretched wings, so will Jehovah of hosts cover Jerusalem; covering, he will also deliver, passing over, he will rescue it.

6 Turn unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, ye children of Israel;

5 The Lord of Armies will defend Jerusalem like a hovering bird. 

He will defend it and rescue it. 

He will pass over it and protect it. 

6 You people of Israel, return to the one 

whom you have so violently rebelled against. 

5 Like hovering birds,

so the Lord of Hosts will protect Jerusalem —

by protecting it, He will rescue it,

by sparing it, He will deliver it.

6 Return to the One the Israelites have greatly rebelled against.

5 Like birds hovering overhead, so the Lord of hosts

will protect Jerusalem;

he will protect and deliver it;

he will spare and rescue it.”

6 Turn back to him whom you have deeply betrayed, O people of Israel.

5 Like birds flying overhead, so Yahweh of hosts will protect Jerusalem;

he will protect and deliver it;

he will pass over and rescue it.

6 Turn back to the one against whom the sons of Israel have made deep rebellion.

5 Like a bird hovering over its nest, I will guard Jerusalem.

I will keep it safe.

I will pass over it and save it.

I am the Lord who rules over all.”

6 People of Israel, return to the Lord. He’s the one you have so strongly opposed.

5 Like flying birds so the Lord of hosts will protect Jerusalem.

He will protect and deliver it;

He will pass over and rescue it.

6 Return to Him from whom you have deeply defected, O sons of Israel.
