1 A prophecy against the Valley of Vision:

What troubles you now,

that you have all gone up on the roofs,

2 you town so full of commotion,

you city of tumult and revelry?

Your slain were not killed by the sword,

nor did they die in battle.

3 All your leaders have fled together;

they have been captured without using the bow.

All you who were caught were taken prisoner together,

having fled while the enemy was still far away.

1 The burden of the valley of vision.

What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

2 Thou that art full of stirs,

A tumultuous city, a joyous city:

Thy slain men are not slain with the sword,

Nor dead in battle.

3 All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers:

All that are found in thee are bound together, which have fled from far.

1 This message came to me concerning Jerusalem—the Valley of Vision:

What is happening?

Why is everyone running to the rooftops?

2 The whole city is in a terrible uproar.

What do I see in this reveling city?

Bodies are lying everywhere,

killed not in battle but by famine and disease.

3 All your leaders have fled.

They surrendered without resistance.

The people tried to slip away,

but they were captured, too.

1 The burden against the Valley of Vision.

What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops,

2 You who are full of noise,

A tumultuous city, a joyous city?

Your slain men are not slain with the sword,

Nor dead in battle.

3 All your rulers have fled together;

They are captured by the archers.

All who are found in you are bound together;

They have fled from afar.

1 This is a message about the Valley of Vision:

What is wrong with you people?

Why are you on your roofs?

2 This city was a very busy city,

full of noise and wild parties.

Now your people have been killed,

but not with swords,

nor did they die in battle.

3 All your leaders ran away together,

but they have been captured without using a bow.

All you who were captured

tried to run away before the enemy came.

What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops? 2 O thou that art full of shoutings, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; thy slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle. 3 All thy rulers fled away together, they were bound by the archers; all that were found of thee were bound together; they fled afar off.

All those who were found were taken prisoner 

before any of them could get far away.

2 The noisy city, the jubilant town,

is filled with revelry.

Your dead did not die by the sword;

they were not killed in battle.

3 All your rulers have fled together,

captured without a bow.

All your fugitives were captured together;

they had fled far away.

They were captured together;

they had fled far away.

People of Jerusalem, what’s the matter with you?

Why have all of you gone up on the roofs of your houses?

2 Why is your town so full of noise?

Why is your city so full of the sound of wild parties?

Those among you who died weren’t killed with swords.

They didn’t die in battle.

3 All of your leaders have run away.

They’ve been captured without a single arrow being shot.

All those who were caught were taken away as prisoners.

They ran off while your enemies were still far away.
