Hebrews 5:6–11 — The New International Version (NIV)

And he says in another place,

“You are a priest forever,

in the order of Melchizedek.”

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)

And in another passage God said to him,

“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. 10 And God designated him to be a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

As He also says in another place:

“You are a priest forever

According to the order of Melchizedek”;

who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” 11 of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — New Century Version (NCV)

And in another Scripture God says,

“You are a priest forever,

a priest like Melchizedek.”

While Jesus lived on earth, he prayed to God and asked God for help. He prayed with loud cries and tears to the One who could save him from death, and his prayer was heard because he trusted God. Even though Jesus was the Son of God, he learned obedience by what he suffered. And because his obedience was perfect, he was able to give eternal salvation to all who obey him. 10 In this way God made Jesus a high priest, a priest like Melchizedek.

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are so slow to understand.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)

as he saith also in another place,

Thou art a priest for ever

After the order of Melchizedek.

Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear, though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation; 10 named of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become dull of hearing.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Even as also in another place he says, Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up both supplications and entreaties to him who was able to save him out of death, with strong crying and tears; (and having been heard because of his piety;) though he were Son, he learned obedience from the things which he suffered; and having been perfected, became to all them that obey him, author of eternal salvation;

10 addressed by God as high priest according to the order of Melchisedec. 11 Concerning whom we have much to say, and hard to be interpreted in speaking of it, since ye are become dull in hearing.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

In another place in Scripture, God said,

“You are a priest forever,

in the way Melchizedek was a priest.”

During his life on earth, Jesus prayed to God, who could save him from death. He prayed and pleaded with loud crying and tears, and he was heard because of his devotion to God. Although Jesus was the Son ⸤of God⸥, he learned to be obedient through his sufferings. After he had finished his work, he became the source of eternal salvation for everyone who obeys him. 10 God appointed him chief priest in the way Melchizedek was a priest.

11 We have a lot to explain about this. But since you have become too lazy to pay attention, explaining it to you is hard.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

also said in another passage, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

During His earthly life, He offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Though He was God’s Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. After He was perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, 10 and He was declared by God a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

11 We have a great deal to say about this, and it’s difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

as he says also in another place,

“You are a priest forever,

according to the order of Melchizedek.”

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, 10 having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

11 About this we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become dull in understanding.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

just as also in another place he says,

“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek,”

who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered, and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

11 Concerning this we have much to say and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

In another place he said,

“You are a priest forever,

just like Melchizedek.”

Jesus prayed while he lived on earth. He made his appeal with loud cries and tears. He prayed to the One who could save him from death. God heard him because he truly honored God.

Jesus was God’s Son. But by suffering he learned what it means to obey. In that way he was made perfect. Eternal salvation comes from him. He saves all those who obey him.

10 God appointed him to be the high priest, just like Melchizedek.

11 We have a lot to say about that. But it is hard to explain it to you. You learn too slowly.

Hebrews 5:6–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

just as He says also in another passage,

You are a priest forever

According to the order of Melchizedek.”

In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.

Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.

And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

10 being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
