Hebrews 7:22–24
Hebrews 7:22–24 — The New International Version (NIV)
22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — New Living Translation (NLT)
22 Because of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God.
23 There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.
23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — New Century Version (NCV)
22 This means that Jesus is the guarantee of a better agreement from God to his people.
23 When one of the other priests died, he could not continue being a priest. So there were many priests. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, he will never stop serving as priest.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — American Standard Version (ASV)
22 by so much also hath Jesus become the surety of a better covenant. 23 And they indeed have been made priests many in number, because that by death they are hindered from continuing: 24 but he, because he abideth for ever, hath his priesthood unchangeable.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
22 by so much Jesus became surety of a better covenant. 23 And they have been many priests, on account of being hindered from continuing by death; 24 but he, because of his continuing for ever, has the priesthood unchangeable.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
22 In this way Jesus has become the guarantee of a better promise.
23 There was a long succession of priests because when a priest died he could no longer serve. 24 But Jesus lives forever, so he serves as a priest forever.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
22 So Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 Now many have become Levitical priests, since they are prevented by death from remaining in office. 24 But because He remains forever, He holds His priesthood permanently.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
22 accordingly Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 Furthermore, the former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
22 by so much more Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 And indeed many have become priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he, because he continues forever, holds the priesthood permanently.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
22 Because of that oath, Jesus makes the promise of a better covenant certain.
23 There were many priests in Levi’s family line. Death kept them from continuing in office. 24 But Jesus lives forever. So he always holds the office of priest.
Hebrews 7:22–24 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
22 so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing,
24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.
