Amos 4:6–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

“I gave you empty stomachs in every city

and lack of bread in every town,

yet you have not returned to me,”

declares the Lord.

“I also withheld rain from you

when the harvest was still three months away.

I sent rain on one town,

but withheld it from another.

One field had rain;

another had none and dried up.

Amos 4:6–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities,

And want of bread in all your places:

Yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.

And also I have withholden the rain from you,

When there were yet three months to the harvest:

And I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city:

One piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

Amos 4:6–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“I brought hunger to every city

and famine to every town.

But still you would not return to me,”

says the Lord.

“I kept the rain from falling

when your crops needed it the most.

I sent rain on one town

but withheld it from another.

Rain fell on one field,

while another field withered away.

Amos 4:6–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

“Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities.

And lack of bread in all your places;

Yet you have not returned to Me,”

Says the Lord.

“I also withheld rain from you,

When there were still three months to the harvest.

I made it rain on one city,

I withheld rain from another city.

One part was rained upon,

And where it did not rain the part withered.

Amos 4:6–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

“I did not give you any food in your cities,

and there was not enough to eat in any of your towns,

but you did not come back to me,” says the Lord.

“I held back the rain from you

three months before harvest time.

Then I let it rain on one city

but not on another.

Rain fell on one field,

but another field got none and dried up.

Amos 4:6–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places; yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah. And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

Amos 4:6–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places; yet ye have not returned unto me, saith Jehovah. And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece of land was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

Amos 4:6–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

I left you with nothing to eat in any of your cities.

I left you with no food in your entire land.

And you still didn’t return to me, declares the Lord

I stopped the rain from falling

three months before the harvest.

I sent rain on one city and not on another.

One field had rain.

Another field had none and dried up.

Amos 4:6–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

I gave you absolutely nothing to eat

in all your cities,

a shortage of food in all your communities,

yet you did not return to Me.

This is the Lord’s declaration.

I also withheld the rain from you

while there were still three months until harvest.

I sent rain on one city

but no rain on another.

One field received rain

while a field with no rain withered.

Amos 4:6–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities,

and lack of bread in all your places,

yet you did not return to me,

says the Lord.

And I also withheld the rain from you

when there were still three months to the harvest;

I would send rain on one city,

and send no rain on another city;

one field would be rained upon,

and the field on which it did not rain withered;

Amos 4:6–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

“And I in turn gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and lack of bread in all your places. Yet you did not return to me,” is the declaration of Yahweh. “And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. And I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city. One tract of land will be rained on, and the tract of land on which it does not rain will dry up.

Amos 4:6–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“I made sure your stomachs were empty in every city.

You did not have enough bread in any of your towns.

In spite of that, you still have not returned to me,”

announces the Lord.

“I also held rain back from you.

The time to harvest crops

was still three months away.

I sent rain on one town.

But I held it back from another.

One field had rain.

Another did not. So it dried up.

Amos 4:6–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

“But I gave you also cleanness of teeth in all your cities

And lack of bread in all your places,

Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.

Furthermore, I withheld the rain from you

While there were still three months until harvest.

Then I would send rain on one city

And on another city I would not send rain;

One part would be rained on,

While the part not rained on would dry up.
