13 that you forget the Lord your Maker,

who stretches out the heavens

and who lays the foundations of the earth,

that you live in constant terror every day

because of the wrath of the oppressor,

who is bent on destruction?

For where is the wrath of the oppressor?

14 The cowering prisoners will soon be set free;

they will not die in their dungeon,

nor will they lack bread.

15 For I am the Lord your God,

who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—

the Lord Almighty is his name.

13 And forgettest the Lord thy maker,

That hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth;

And hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor,

As if he were ready to destroy?

And where is the fury of the oppressor?

14 The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed,

And that he should not die in the pit,

Nor that his bread should fail.

15 But I am the Lord thy God,

That divided the sea, whose waves roared:

The Lord of hosts is his name.

13 Yet you have forgotten the Lord, your Creator,

the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy

and laid the foundations of the earth.

Will you remain in constant dread of human oppressors?

Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies?

Where is their fury and anger now?

It is gone!

14 Soon all you captives will be released!

Imprisonment, starvation, and death will not be your fate!

15 For I am the Lord your God,

who stirs up the sea, causing its waves to roar.

You have feared continually every day

Because of the fury of the oppressor,

When he has prepared to destroy.

And where is the fury of the oppressor?

14 The captive exile hastens, that he may be loosed,

That he should not die in the pit,

And that his bread should not fail.

Who divided the sea whose waves roared—

The Lord of hosts is His name.

13 Have you forgotten the Lord who made you,

who stretched out the skies

and made the earth?

Why are you always afraid

of those angry people who trouble you

and who want to destroy?

But where are those angry people now?

14 People in prison will soon be set free;

they will not die in prison,

and they will have enough food.

15 I am the Lord your God,

who stirs the sea and makes the waves roar.

13 and hast forgotten Jehovah thy Maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fearest continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he maketh ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? 14 The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not die and go down into the pit, neither shall his bread fail. 15 For I am Jehovah thy God, who stirreth up the sea, so that the waves thereof roar: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

Why should you live in constant fear of the fury 

of those who oppress you, 

of those who are ready to destroy you? 

Where is the fury of those who oppress you? 

14 Chained prisoners will be set free.

And he shall not die in the pit,

and he shall not lack his bread.

15 For I am Yahweh, your God,

who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar;

Yahweh of hosts is his name.

13 How can you forget me? I made you.

I spread out the heavens.

I laid the foundations of the earth.

Why are you terrified every day?

Is it because those who are angry with you are crushing you?

Is it because they are trying to destroy you?

Their anger can’t harm you anymore.

14 You prisoners who are so afraid will soon be set free.

You will not die in your prison cells.

You will not go without food.

15 I am the Lord your God.

I stir up the ocean. I make its waves roar.
