32 As they wail and mourn over you,

they will take up a lament concerning you:

“Who was ever silenced like Tyre,

surrounded by the sea?”

33 When your merchandise went out on the seas,

you satisfied many nations;

with your great wealth and your wares

you enriched the kings of the earth.

34 Now you are shattered by the sea

in the depths of the waters;

your wares and all your company

have gone down with you.

35 All who live in the coastlands

are appalled at you;

their kings shudder with horror

and their faces are distorted with fear.

36 The merchants among the nations scoff at you;

you have come to a horrible end

and will be no more.’ ”

32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea? 33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise. 34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall. 35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance. 36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

32 As they wail and mourn over you,

they sing this sad funeral song:

‘Was there ever such a city as Tyre,

now silent at the bottom of the sea?

33 The merchandise you traded

satisfied the desires of many nations.

Kings at the ends of the earth

were enriched by your trade.

34 Now you are a wrecked ship,

broken at the bottom of the sea.

All your merchandise and crew

have gone down with you.

35 All who live along the coastlands

are appalled at your terrible fate.

Their kings are filled with horror

and look on with twisted faces.

36 The merchants among the nations

shake their heads at the sight of you,

for you have come to a horrible end

and will exist no more.’ ”

32 In their wailing for you

They will take up a lamentation,

And lament for you:

‘What city is like Tyre,

Destroyed in the midst of the sea?

33 ‘When your wares went out by sea,

You satisfied many people;

You enriched the kings of the earth

With your many luxury goods and your merchandise.

34 But you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters;

Your merchandise and the entire company will fall in your midst.

35 All the inhabitants of the isles will be astonished at you;

Their kings will be greatly afraid,

And their countenance will be troubled.

36 The merchants among the peoples will hiss at you;

You will become a horror, and be no more forever.’ ” ’ ”

32 And in their loud crying

they sing a funeral song for you:

“No one was ever destroyed like Tyre,

surrounded by the sea.”

33 When the goods you traded went out over the seas,

you met the needs of many nations.

With your great wealth and goods,

you made kings of the earth rich.

34 But now you are broken by the sea

and have sunk to the bottom.

Your goods and all the people on board

have gone down with you.

35 All those who live along the shore

are shocked by what happened to you.

Their kings are terribly afraid,

and their faces show their fear.

36 The traders among the nations hiss at you.

You have come to a terrible end,

and you are gone forever.’ ”

32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, Who is there like Tyre, like her that is brought to silence in the midst of the sea? 33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise. 34 In the time that thou wast broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, thy merchandise and all thy company did fall in the midst of thee. 35 All the inhabitants of the isles are astonished at thee, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their countenance. 36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at thee; thou art become a terror, and thou shalt nevermore have any being.

32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, Who is like Tyre, like her that is destroyed in the midst of the sea? 33 When thy wares went forth over the seas, thou filledst many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the abundance of thy substance and of thy merchandise. 34 In the time when thou art broken by the seas, in the depths of the waters, thy merchandise and all thine assemblage in the midst of thee have fallen. 35 All the inhabitants of the isles are amazed at thee, and their kings are horribly afraid, their countenance is troubled. 36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at thee; thou art become a terror, and thou shalt never be any more.

32 They sang a funeral song for you with loud crying: 

“Who is like Tyre, the city destroyed in the sea?” 

33 Your merchandise was sent overseas. 

You filled many people with your great wealth and your goods. 

You made the kings of the earth rich. 

34 Now you are wrecked in the sea, at the bottom of the sea. 

Your goods and your whole crew sank with you. 

35 All those who live on the coasts are horrified because of you. 

Their kings are terribly afraid. 

Their faces show their fear. 

36 The merchants among the nations laugh at you. 

You have come to a terrible end, 

and you will never exist again.’ ”

33 When your merchandise was unloaded from the seas,

you satisfied many peoples.

You enriched the kings of the earth

with your abundant wealth and goods.

34 Now you are shattered by the sea

in the depths of the waters;

your goods and the people within you

have gone down.

35 All the inhabitants of the coasts and islands

are appalled at you.

Their kings shudder with fear;

their faces are contorted.

36 Those who trade among the peoples

mock you;

you have become an object of horror

and will never exist again.”

32 In their wailing they raise a lamentation for you,

and lament over you:

“Who was ever destroyed like Tyre

in the midst of the sea?

33 When your wares came from the seas,

you satisfied many peoples;

with your abundant wealth and merchandise

you enriched the kings of the earth.

34 Now you are wrecked by the seas,

in the depths of the waters;

your merchandise and all your crew

have sunk with you.

35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands

are appalled at you;

and their kings are horribly afraid,

their faces are convulsed.

36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at you;

you have come to a dreadful end

and shall be no more forever.”

32 And they will raise over you with their wailing a lament,

and they will chant a lament over you:

‘Who is like Tyre,

like this destruction in the midst of the sea?’

33 When your merchandise went out from the seas,

you satisfied many peoples with the abundance of your wealth,

and by your wares

you made rich the kings of the world.

34 Now you are broken by seas

in the depths of waters;

your wares and all of your crew

in the midst of you have sunk.

35 All of the inhabitants of the coastlands

are appalled over you,

and their kings shudder in horror;

they distort their faces!

36 The traders among the peoples hiss over you;

you have become a horror,

and you shall be no more forever!’ ”

32 As they sob and cry over you,

they will sing a song of sadness about you.

They will say, ‘Who was ever like Tyre?

It was destroyed in the sea.’

33 Your goods went out on the seas.

You supplied many nations with what they needed.

You had so much wealth and so many products.

You made the kings of the earth rich.

34 Now the sea has torn you apart.

You have sunk deep down into it.

Your products and all of your people

have gone down with you.

35 All those who live in the lands along the coast

are shocked because of what has happened to you.

Their kings tremble with fear.

Their faces are twisted in horror.

36 The traders among the nations hiss at you.

You have come to a horrible end.

And you will be gone forever.” ’ ”

32 “Moreover, in their wailing they will take up a lamentation for you

And lament over you:

‘Who is like Tyre,

Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea?

33 ‘When your wares went out from the seas,

You satisfied many peoples;

With the abundance of your wealth and your merchandise

You enriched the kings of earth.

34 ‘Now that you are broken by the seas

In the depths of the waters,

Your merchandise and all your company

Have fallen in the midst of you.

35 ‘All the inhabitants of the coastlands

And their kings are horribly afraid;

They are troubled in countenance.

You have become terrified

And you will cease to be forever.’ ” ’ ”
